Others have said it as well as can be said already so I will defer to them on the finer points. I believe in protecting our natural resources and environment, and that includes critically endangered species like right whales. That often means we have to take steps to curtail our activities and that's fine.

But mitigation strategies must be based on solid data. Implementing a regulation that is going to devastate an industry that has little to no chance of having a positive impact for protecting that species is bad policy and should be fought.
